About the role of your State Delegate

The Maryland House of Delegates is one of the two houses of the Maryland General Assembly. Together with the Maryland Senate, they form the legislative branch of our state government. Our citizen legislature is "in session" in Annapolis for 90 days each year between January and April. Each year during the session we pass the state budget and consider over 2500 proposed changes to state law. During the rest of the year, legislators return home to their districts. Your Delegation consists of one State Senator and three State Delegates. A large part of a Delegation's role is constituent service. In addition to working on legislation that affects the entire state, they assist constituents with local issues and can be particularly helpful with matters involving County or State Government. State Delegates and State Senators serve four year terms. The entire General Assembly is up for election the same year as the Maryland Governor.
