Sher Heads Carr Campaign for Delegatee
"Dean of Montgomery County Elected Officials"
Kensington, Maryland - Aug 7, 2006
Long-time Montgomery County leader Bill Sher
is heading up the campaign to elect Al Carr to
the Maryland House of Delegates.
Sher, former County Council President, urban
planner, governor's aide and Director of the
County Department of Housing and Community
Development, is chairing Carr's bid for a seat
in the Maryland Legislature for the 18th District
(Kensington, Chevy Chase, Wheaton,
Silver Spring).
"Al Carr has the dedication, knowledge and experience to be an excellent
representative in Annapolis," said Sher. "He will be effective in addressing issues
of traffic congestion, public safety and education. The common sense approach
he has shown solving community problems during four years on the Kensington
Town Council and working within the Maryland Municipal League is just what our
county needs in the statehouse. I think that’s the reason Al has been endorsed by
the mayors of Kensington, Garrett Park, Gaithersburg, Somerset, Takoma Park,
Greenbelt and District Heights.”

Many years of Distinguished Service
"Bill Sher is the dean of Montgomery County elected officials," said Carr, “and I am
honored to have the benefit of his skills and experience; he has been
active in politics since he led the precinct get-out-the-vote effort for John F.
Kennedy in 1960 and remains active today."
Following his service on the county council, Sher became special assistant for local
government affairs to acting Governor Blair Lee III, and served as the governor's
liaison to the State Department of Economic and Community Development. He
also has taught urban planning at Montgomery College and lectured at the
University of Maryland.
Politics is a shared passion for the Sher family -- Bill's late wife, Patricia, was
elected to four terms in the Maryland House of Delegates and served four years as
State Senator for District 18. Their son, Tod, also served in the House of
Delegates. "I guess we just enjoy staying involved in the community," concluded
Bill.
Bill joins the other members of the Carr for Delegate team which includes Honorary
Co-Chair Marlene Cohn, Media Director John Doherty, Campaign intern Romain
Cartoux and many dedicated volunteers.
